For all you bookbinders some great news - in addition to the 35/3 cord from Barbour we have just acquired a stock of 18/3 Barbour's Linen thread, which has been stored away in a West Country warehouse for years. Each spool is still wrapped in its glassine paper, so the thread has been protected.

What a busy few weeks! Lots of sales of Irish Linen sheets and pillowcases, but delighted to report that more have been acquired and are gradually making their way into the shop. Wonderful unused linens from the 1970s and '80s and superb quality.
We've also bought a fantastic sewing basket brimming with lace and crochet, mostly unused and lots of variety. The owner must have had a 'thing' for insertion lace - there are some gorgeous examples. And then another box became available - a cardboard box printed with a Mable Lucie Atwell pattern and filled to overflowing with more trimming and lace. It is taking a while to work through it all, so do be sure to check back regularly to see the collection.

The start of the year has brought with it some wonderful new stock; plenty more rolls of ribbon, some stunning passementerie trimmings and we've been able to get hold of lots more spools of Barbour 35/3 linen thread. And some delightful Irish Linen of course, breakfast sets and embroidered napkins from the 1940s and 50s. And we are now on Instagram, so please do check out our posts there and follow us if you like.

Can't believe we are nearing the end of the year already! This month has brought some great new stock to the shop shelves - wonderful original wooden bobbins and spools from a linen mill in Co Tyrone, N Ireland. The mill closed in the 1960s and the bobbins were only recently discovered. Not only was I able to acquire quite a few, but I got to see the mill, sadly now in a tumbldown state, but once the heart of the village of Coagh. These are great pieces from Ulster's linen history.

What a treasure trove! I came across some amazing 1930s Bohemian glass buttons last week - beautiful little masterpieces known as Paperweight Buttons. Coloured glass overlaid with flecks of mica gold and all encased in a clear glass dome, just beautiful. All unused stock from a long closed haberdashery warehouse, 7 colours 4 different sizes, so I will be taking photos and getting them into the shop over the next few days. They remind me of snow globes!

A new section in the shop "Exceptionally Fine Linen". Some of the linens recently acquired are really quite special, not only in terms of design, but also on account of the quality of the linen and embroidery, so we decided they deserved their own place. These superb pieces are definitely heirlooms in the making.

Finally some new Revived Damask napkins and runners - the new colour is called Pomegranate and it is a rich autumn red with russet tones, just perfect for a Christmas table setting. And some very special embroidered table linens too, just in time for your festive entertaining.

Just back from a great visit to Ireland and returned with the car filled (almost) with some fantastic linens. What I would call "proper" Irish Linen, with a wonderful lustre and crispness. Boxes of sheets and a large quantity of pillowcases, none of them ever used and classic hemstitched napkins too. These came from the private collection of a gentleman long associated with the very best in Irish Linen. I was so fortunate to be able to acquire these very special pieces. I will getting them photographed and onto the shop shelves in the coming weeks.
